In just one day at the Bell Centre in Montreal some of the greatest fighters in the world will be squaring off in the octagon at UFC 113.  Not only that, but several great Canadian fighters will also be representing the Red and White tomorrow.  So, for my loyal viewers and fight fans I have prepared and written some predictions for the evening’s upcoming battles.

UFC Light Heavyweight Championship

Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua

This fight is a rematch of their controversial battle which occurred approximately seven months ago.  For those of you who didn’t see that fight it was definitely a close one.  From my memory, I had Shogun winning that fight 3 rounds to 2 thanks to his consistent barrage of leg and body kicks.

However, this fight will be tough to call and will depend largely on the adjustments each fighter has made during their time off.   Range will be the key, Lyoto is best when he is either far away to strike and avoid counters or in the clinch where he lets off several knees at a time.  Shogun controlled the first fight be keeping the range at medium distance allowing him to get off his leg kicks at the proper distance.

Tough to call, my prediction: Lyoto Machida by decision

Josh Koscheck vs. Paul “Semtex” Daley

This promises to be a really exciting and amazing matchup.  Both are cocky, confident, trash talkers both in line for a title shot against Georges St-Pierre.  The winner of this matchup is also scheduled to be one of the next coaches on the next Ultimate Fighter season alongside GSP.

Stylistically, this is an intriguing matchup.  Josh Koscheck has all the tools to defeat Daley if he goes ahead and makes sure to take Daley down to the ground, in order to punish him.  Daley on the other hand loves to “Sprawl and Brawl” and his left hook is devastating.   My prediction, I believe that Koscheck will be too eager to test out his stand up against Semtex and will pay dearly for it.

My prediction: Paul Daley by Knockout 1st Round

Kimbo Slice vs. Matt Mitrione

The former backyard brawler and security guard vs. the former NFL player.  I think this matchup like all the other ones is a tough one to call.  I may end up being wrong on all of them.  Kimbo Slice actually has more experience and is probably a technically better striker.  But, I wouldn’t sleep on Mitrione, he has an awkward style and very heavy hands.

My prediction: (Sorry Kimbo) Matt Mitrione by Knockout 2nd round

Sam Stout vs. Jeremy Stephens

The Canadian Sam Stout is coming off of a great win against Joe Lauzon and is hoping to continue his winning streak against the tough 23 year old Jeremy Stephens.  I expect Stout to do as always, keep the fight standing, push the pace and outlast his opponent.

My prediction: Sam Stout by decision

Patrick Cote vs. Alan Belcher

This will be a great matchup between two great standup fighters.  Look for Alan Belcher to crank out his devastating leg kicks against Cote’s recently repaired knee and look for Cote to come over the top with some good stiff punches.  My prediction, I believe that Cote will be able to weather an early storm to eventually put Belcher away.

My prediction: Patrick Cote by TKO 3rd round

What are your thoughts?  Who’s going to win the title match? Agree/Disagree with my predictions?
